I first came across We Make it Good via The Fully Fitted blog which is the home to Devlin & Darko (of Spank Rock fame) and Alex XXXchange. Fully Fitted is an amazing blog which I’ve been checking for a good couple of years now. But what I really want to talk about (for now) is We Make It Good.
A collaboration with The Fader, We Make It Good is a mixtape series which reaches out to some pretty awesome people including The Gaslamp Killer, Sinden, Crookers and the Fully Fitted guys amongst others. They’re all truly stunning, and some of which are the most treasured mixes I own. Several use remarkable samples to great narrative effect while the majority offer a divergent soundscape, providing an awe-inspiring lesson in musicology. This is truly for the connoisseur. If you find your ipod on shuffle mode a jarring navigation of diasporic ethnomusicology mixed with the classics, some hardcore rap, heavy bass and spoken word, I’m sure these will all tickle your fancy.
Since the first WMIG I haven’t really checked for them since the first 7 releases, and pondering whether they had made any more, I did a little digging. WMIG has since ballooned into a truly fantastic creative conglomerate. With TV features, art spaces, and a fantastic art blog, they’ve branched out, gathered and conquered.
The latest edition to the series is mixed by Salem and is incredibly bleak and features some amazing chopped and screwed remix, including one of The Beach Boys. Download it HERE and while you’re at it, cop the other 10 also!
